” Don’t cry because it’s over, be happy because it happened ”

Poutine et Smokes
The Sainte Catherines are pulling the plug. It’s been such a long time that we’ve wondered what to say when the time would come, that we don’t really know how to. Here we go.
There are hundreds of reasons for why we are disbanding, some of which even our closes friends would not even understand. Being part of The Sainte Catherines has recently brought more negative energy to our individual lives than positive. We don’t want to become pale copies of what we once were, trying to hold on to the “glory of the past”, or what little we had. Something we are proud of.
We are who we are because of this band. Our friends went to school, worked day jobs, and traveled the world. We did this all through The Sainte Catherines. Our 20′s and early 30′s went spent traveling throughout 14 countries and playing over 700 shows. 12 years of our lives, organized around tours, jamming and everything else that comes with it, whether it be good or bad. The feeling now, is that we have accomplished what we set out to do. Whether it was the good days or the bad months, the memories that will last forever.
What will we miss most about these past years? Things like, dumb jokes in the van, stupidities in hotel rooms, eating boiled peanuts while swimming in the ocean, that peculiar look from that unknown woman, and of course… the music. Although the music only seemed to be the pretext to our unique friendship. “I’ll miss the boys…”
Boss Pouzza
Theoren Fleury said at his retirement press conference, “Don’t stop before the miracle”. We lived “the miracle” many times with The Sainte Catherines. Thank you life.
Thank you to everyone who listened to our band, read the lyrics, came to the shows, bought a record or a t shirt. Thank you to anyone near or far that invested in putting out a record, putting on a show or booked a tour. Thank you to the people that took us into their homes, drove or repaired our van, sold or designed our merchandise, shot a video or a picture, or did an interview. Thank you to all the bands that invited us on tour, anyone that stopped to talk to us, asked for an autograph or just gave us the time of day. Thank you for allowing us to live our adult, teenage and childhood dream.
On a personal sides of things, thank you to all our friends, girlfriends and wives that supported and accepted our choices even if we were not around so often. Thank you to our kids who understood that “dad” had to go play another show.
Fred @ Pouzza 2011
Finally, we would like to thank everyone that played in the band. Jf Ménard, Mike Sokolyk, François Lessard, Jef Roberge, Rich Bouthiller, Andrea Silver, Pat Sayers, Luc Gagné, Julien Blais, Antoine Parent, Guillaume Nadeau, Pablo Boerr, Jean-Philippe Tassé, Simon Poirier, Guillaume Beauregard, Hugues Simard and Mathieu Guilbault.
Final words are often the toughest things to come up with, but out of respect to you, we avoided using one of our dumb inside jokes.
“All these years seemed to last so long, with the best of times never lasting long enough. It was incredible. It was magical and it was oh
so real. Thank you.”
Hugo Mudie Fred Jacques Louis Valiquette Marc-André Beaudet,
The Sainte Catherines ( 1999-2012 )
We will be playing our songs one last time. (April 13 in Toronto, details to come) Saying thank you one last time.
American corporate media’s integration into Canada is complete.
There was no announcement, but I feel the shift more than ever.
It’s here, it’s queer, get used to it.
Hey dudes, every day I make the news, here’s the editors blues.
I conclude from my real life experiences, that people are generally good. We all want dinner. But looking through this screen for my whole life, there is enough kneejerk and auto-justified hate for everyone that I get sucked in deeply as well. Have you realized that most of your opinions are formed by your peer trusted media? Mine too. Some people even pick it up going into a subway station from a friendly peddler (and free!)
My friends, we are all smart people here, no doubt, some of us even have great taste in music, but some of us hate, immediately canceling any attempt at reasoning or understanding. It is clearer than ever that all media influences us in ways we barely notice anymore. I consume what I think is a wide range of media. Published, it all has mandate and I can often see what it is in any published work, even the ‘feel good’ story that you have to undeniably agree with. How did ‘we’ get so gullible? All so savvy to special effects, there is a real special effect filtering every sound text and image we consume. As a video editor, what is chosen to be displayed or communicated has a deep impact.
I have become more interested in ‘news’ ever since the invasion of Iraq in 2002-3, I worked tech production at a Canadian national daily newspaper, watching democracynow via realplayer, reading op-eds and getting upset. I truly believe the comedic and brass eye-esque posters around the newsroom (of what looked like a carpet bomb explosion with the words WAR DESK) was an attempt to keep sane while refining messages and news items. The information barrage is starting to wear me down and I am losing faith in people the more I indulge in reading ‘comments’. I know real life is not like this. The man who hates me on the screen, can be my brother if we actually made eye contact for a second. The anonymous political, corporate and insane now have a mainline megaphone to the brain. They will never break into our homes to drill in a message, I seek it, I consume it, no one ever has to ask.
I try to ask people in my neighborhood about ‘what’s up’, now and then. Only the seniors will stop and talk to me. Is my positive reach worth more to some troubled teenager or young professional at the right time, than to spend hours and hours of wasted life online every day and agree with every single article I read about how things are totally backwards. If I mention 1984 will I be laughed at? I am over informed, and can see how the numbness can lead to polarization that I thought I was even immune to.
A friend posts an article, I read it, then maybe skim the comments, all of a sudden, the world is a terrible hopeless bickering mess and I have to one day pick a side. Holy war, drug war, drums of war. Can you feel the moment that happens to you? You may never know.. but I do feel it when the program changes, pro gram ming, the menu does change in the wee hours of the morning. This is not a joke, how can anyone not see how calculated it is? How can people be so stup- oh snap there I go, now I’m a head shaker, next is finger wagging, what happened?
I fight the urge to cocoon. Its so easy to cocoon. I am an armchair activist, I am a middle aged hacktivist.
and now my sponsors: …. tell me people am I going insane? …. forget what you think you know …. stakes is high …. for the media controller …. money rules the backs of young and old …. hypercritical and universal cynical …. america is just a word … I’ve got to smile, I’m in a free and pleasant land. Chained to a wall in toyland, they toil, while we just watch and abhor .. don’t do it …. the media says this?! … they divide and conquer … gimmie sopor
note: I read so much poorly written shit I am finally not afraid to pub my own poorly written shit

Tiltwheel (from San Diego) make their way up to Toronto and play a show with their friends Sinkin’ Ships. This will be Tiltwheels first time in Canada so lets show them a good time.
Also on the show will be the Roman Line and Year Zero.
In 1994 I played some tiltwheel as a guest on chry 105.5 (ewan’s show?, stephe? these are fuzzy days indeed) and talked about where I had first heard them (Plan B video) ad how much It rocked (yeah, real deep stuff here) I heard more tiltwheel in later skate videos (Troubleshooters) and learned what I could about this band from a dial-up and sparse mid 90′s internet when lo and behold David Tiltwheel had a comprehensive webpage with frequently asked questions, bit of a history, and all the stuff we expect now, to see from a bands website. Kind of a big deal to learn about this group. After some long gaps, joy and pain, sunshine and rain, 2 platinum records in Greenland, 2 Leatherface covers, America’s got Talent finalists SHITWHEEL finally comes up to Toronto. Come on out and see a band that some people call the ‘american Leatherface’..um, with more husker du than motorhead *sigh* (sorry, I had to, it’s just easier to explain ‘music’ that way) -JDM
